By Leanne Chalkley. This is one of the only moments I have been able to catch our puppy dog Milo when she is not active and running around. What a gift on Christmas morning to be able to catch such a beautiful picture of our Milo.

The spectacular sky rather than the famous skyline is the real hero of Kevin Thornhill’s accurately exposed and focused picture.

We were told that the subject in my photo had escaped from China at the age of 16 and has sold food at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Thailand ever since. She is believed to now be more than 100 years old. I chose to capture a candid image rather than a posed one as she sold us rather delicious food.

Taken on my brother’s farm, Eastland, New Zealand.

This was taken on a beach in Adelaide of my American cousin who was travelling to Australia at the time. She was enjoying the beach at sunset, so I decided to snap a few pics and she decided to pose in this photo!

As anyone who has tried their hand at macro photography can attest, it is not as easy as it looks.

Amazing morning: mist off the sea at dawn (well a little after) enabling me to shoot directly into the sun. No touching up afterwards – or maybe I should have done.

This is an image from a series of portraits I took of my then 87 year old grandfather. He is about to turn 90 in September. I wanted for this portrait to speak something about his character and personality, whilst evoking emotion from his demeanour and the varying shades of window light.

I took this un-posed image of my son Liam down at the beach one morning. He climbed onto a rock shelf and his silhouette suddenly presented itself. It is perhaps the most favourite image I’ve taken. One aspect I’m unsure about is how to best crop the image. I’ve already cropped slightly (the original is a fraction higher and a tiny bit wider) but am reluctant to lose more of the sky and not sure how to deal with the dark foreground.
