Susan Shanta’s amusingly balletic decisive moment is a classic example of the camera capturing what the eye simply can’t grasp.
The child’s outstretched arms and pointed toes create an impression of effortless flight that Rudolf Nureyev would’ve been pleased with. But I think what really makes this such a special picture is the way the man’s arm and child’s leg cross in the centre of the image. By centering this crucial conjunction of elements in a square frame, Susan ensures the viewer’s eye will circle tightly around those three figures captured in their sublime 1/500 of a second.
Lovely work.
