August 30, 2007: Nikon Australia will release eight new Coolpix digicams in October, upgrading some popular models and adding new functions and improved performance.
The Coolpix P5100 (RRP $649) is an upgrade to the popular P5000 model and targeted at photo enthusiasts who want a compact camera. Featuring a 12.1-megapixel imager and 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens, this model comes with optical VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilisation and a 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD monitor with wide 170-degree viewing angle. The mode dial accesses P, A, S and M shooting modes and a new 1:1 aspect ratio shooting format. Macro focusing to 4 cm is supported.

Blending style and quality construction, the Coolpix S700 (RRP $649) is Nikon’s smallest model with a 12.1-megapixel imager. Partnering it are a 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens and 2.7-inch LCD monitor. Image sensor shift VR is provided for minimising camera shake and a high-sensitivity mode enables users to shoot at ISO 3200 with reduced image size or use full resolution up to ISO 1600. Macro shooting is possible to 4 cm.

The Coolpix S510 (RRP $499) teams 8.1 effective megapixel resolution with a 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens and a 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD monitor. Lens-shift VR can be combined with a top ISO setting of 2000 to permit shooting in low light levels.

The Coolpix S51 (RRP $399) and S51C (RRP $499) are two models with 8.1-megapixel imagers, 3x optical zoom lenses and 3.0-inch LCD monitors. The S51C includes a new wireless LAN communication function that lets users connect to the Internet to send pictures. Launched concurrently with this camera is a new my Picturetown service, a picture storage and sharing site that integrates picture storage, viewing, and transfer.

The Coolpix P50 combines 8.1 megapixel resolution with a 3.6x Zoom-Nikkor lens and electronic VR stabilisation that boosts ISO settings up to 2000 to counteract camera shake and subject motion. This model sports a 2.4-inch LCD and offers a manual shooting mode. Power is supplied by AA batteries. Available in black or silver, the Coolpix P50 is priced at $429.
At entry level are two new models, the Coolpix L15 (RRP $299)and Coolpix L14 (RRP $229). The L15 boasts an 8-megapixel imager, 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens with lens-shift VR and 2.8-inch high-resolution LCD monitor. It will be available in three colours: silver, black and pink. The Coolpix has a 7.1-megapixel imager and 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens plus a 2.4-inch LCD. It will be available in silver, blue and pink. Both models are powered by AA batteries.

Coolpix L15 Common to all models is the new Expeed image processor, which was developed for the company’s digital SLR models and supports ISO settings up to 3200 (at reduced image sizes).
