February 18, 2009: Sony Europe has released details of eight new Cyber-shot digicams that are due to go on sale in coming months and offer features like touch-screen controls, optical image stabilisation and enhanced face detection and Smile Shutter technologies.
Photo enthusiasts are targeted with the Cyber-shot H20, which teams a powerful 10x optical zoom range and HD movie recording with a 10-megapixel 6.16 x 4.62 mm Super HAD CCD sensor. Offered in black, this model features a 3-inch Clear Photo Plus LCD and Easy, Intelligent Auto, Program AE and Manual shooting modes.

The compact Cyber-shot W series gains two new range-topping models: the W290 and W270, both of which offer HD movie recording. Both cameras have a Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens with a 28mm wide angle setting plus a 12.1-megapixel, 6.16 x 4.62 mm Super HAD CCD sensor. The W290 sports a 3.0-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus screen, while the W270 has a 2.7-inch display. Both models will be manufactured in silver, black, red and gold.

Also entering the W series is the Cyber-shot W230, which features the same image sensor as the other new W-series models but has a 4x optical zoom lens, Optical SteadyShot and a 3-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus screen. It is offered in four attractive colour options (silver, black, red and blue).

Two new models have been added to the popular T-series of slimline digicams, the Cyber-shot T900 and T90. Just 15.1 mm wide (at its thinnest point), the T900 is available in silver, black, red and bronze colour finishes. Even slimmer at just 13.9 mm, the T90 offers silver, black, brown, pink and blue colour options. Both models feature super-sized LCD touch-screens plus a new Intelligent Auto mode that automatically analyses the scene and sets the appropriate settings for the subject.

The easy-to-use S980 and S930 Cyber-shots offer a value-packed introduction to the Cyber-shot range. Available in silver, black and pink colour options, they’re packed with useful features like Face Detection and SteadyShot image stabilisation for clearer pictures in any situation.

The new models all feature Sony’s BIONZ image processors. They are supplied with Picture Motion Browser 4.0, the latest version of Sony’s image management application. A wide range of optional accessories is also available, including a new GPS unit kit GPS-CS3KA, which can put geotag data to pictures taken by Cyber-shot cameras. These can then be viewed on maps with Google Earth software and uploaded to major web sharing services.
The Cyber-shot S980 is scheduled for release in Europe from end-February 2009. The W290 and W270 will be available from mid-March, while the T900 and T90 go on sale at the end of March. The remaining models are due for release in April. Local release dates and pricing are not available as yet but we will update this announcement when they are.
