February 1, 2005: In a pre-PMA announcement, Casio Electronics has released details of its new top-of-the-range Exilim digital camera, the 5-megapixel Pro EX-P505.
The new model has a 5x optical zoom plus a 2-inch, rotating TFT colour monitor that makes it easy to shoot from any camera angle. It also offers excellent video performance, capturing movies at 30 frames per second at VGA size, using MPEG-4 technology. The EX-P505 is the third camera in Casio’s Exilim Pro range and features Casio’s ‘Exilim Engine’image processing module, which delivers high quality images and high-speed operation in a compact camera. The low power consumption of Casio’s Super Life battery allows for extended shooting.
An excellent combination of manual and automatic shooting modes is provided, with P, A, S and M modes supplemented by 22 pre-set Best Shot modes that allow users to match the camera’s settings to a pre-selected subject type. A new scene mode, ‘Movie Best Shot’, allows the user to select from five sample scenes for a range of shooting styles. An innovative function, ‘Past Movie’ mode allows users to record movies from five seconds before they press the shutter, while other shooting and editing functions such as ‘Motion Print’ can be used to obtain a still image from a movie.
Other features include the “EX Finder”, which shows image information in easy-to-understand graphical layout and an EX-button that allows various manual settings to be quickly accessed and set from a single screen. The new model is very responsive, with a start-up time of 0.8 seconds after the power is switched on. Casio claims a release time lag of only 0.01 second plus high-speed picture playback at approx. 0.1 second intervals.
