September 29, 2008: Australian colour-management specialist, cielab, will demonstrate the new Spectro Swing spectrophotometers for the first time in Australia, at the opening of their new Brendale premises in Brisbane on 7 October. Manufactured by Barbieri and distributed exclusively in Australia by cielab, the latest model is up to 30% faster than its predecessor. With a measuring speed of just 10 minutes it can cover 1,248 fields in less than 0.3 of a second/field, despite the smallest measuring step being 0.2mm. It also offers “no-button operation”, making it usable by both expert and unskilled operators, and can be used with most flexible media, including paper, banners, canvas (including for trucks) and backlit substrates up to 0.7mm thick. It has three reading modes – automatic, spot and density measurements – and gives real ICC-profiles for transmissive media (such as backlit material and film).

The unit can be used to profile within the RIP and is supported by most RIPs. Barbieri also offers the profile software (which is compatible with Linux, PC and Mac platforms) as an option. The introductory price is only $4,995, including GST.
Demonstrations in cielab’s new “see-lab” showroom will run all day and include the following products:
– Wacom interactive pen displays;
– NEC Spectraview colour critical monitors;
– Apple Xserve and computers;
– HP Designjet Z series printers (including internal colour spectrophotometers for internal colour calibration);
– Ilford inkjet media, such as Omnijet, Galerie and Professional ranges;
– Light-viewing booths. As well, cielab will give away, free, a colour audit and profile configuration to one lucky visitor. This prize includes calibrating: 2 monitors and 2 printer media profiles. The address is Unit 2, 8 Bult Drive, Brendale, Queensland, 4500. For more information, visit www.cielab.com.au. Cielab will also be at the Visual Impact Image Expo in Sydney (Oct 30th to Nov 1st) on stand 78.
