The Wistful Snow Monkey

By Ian Smith. [First winner of Image Review 4.] A ‘Snow Monkey’, or ‘Japanese Macaque’ (Macaca fuscata), looking rather wistful, near Nagano in Japan (the only place in the world where monkeys bathe in hot springs). You can’t help wondering what it’s thinking.

Tatiana

By Deve Mahesan. This is my daughter, who has been a victim of bullying most of her life; all through primary and high school, because she was a high achiever. Google Tatiana Devendranath to find out more about this beautiful sensitive girl. I am a proud Dad.

Fan

By Aemelia Stivaktakis. Found this amazing leaf whilst out for a walk. On closer inspection I discovered it had a spectacular vein-like appearance, and this made me think about slowing down and appreciating the world around me.

Ponder

By Nick Pincott. My attention is always split looking at this image; I love the detail the lens has captured but at the same time I just can’t stop asking myself what’s going through his mind.

The spider

By Brett Meara.
I often travel to the local Botanical Gardens as I find it provides a multitude of opportunities for macro photography. It is almost like attending a variety of climate types at once. I found this guy half way through a meal so luckily she/he wasn’t in the mood to be moving around too much. I used off-camera flash and focused on its eyes, using f/8 on my lens as this generally gives me the sharpest results and a reasonable depth of field. I added a vignette and did some layers adjustments and sharpening in Photoshop.

Is Anyone at Home

I was in Fitzroy (Melbourne) one evening scouting around the lanes for shots for my camera club competition. I found this scene in a lane. It was dark by this time but a couple of street lights provided enough light. Also light from the city was reflecting in the clouds.
