July 9, 2008: Western Digital’s new My Book Mirror Edition is a new external hard disk drive with a dual-drive storage system that backs up data twice for maximum security.
This RAID-based continuous data protection feature, called mirroring, makes WD’s My Book Mirror Edition storage systems the safest place for storing irreplaceable data. Available in capacities of up to 1 TB and 2 TB, the My Book Mirror Edition storage systems ship in Mirrored mode and use half the capacity for file redundancy. This mirroring technology makes the new dual-drive systems an ideal storage solution for photographers, home users and small offices and anyone looking for extra assurance that their data is safe. Users can also switch to Striped mode if they wish to use the drive’s full capacity.
Designed with GreenPower technology, the new drives feature efficient convection cooling architecture, a fan-free design for quiet operation and a power-saving mode that reduces power consumption by a third compared with standard HDDs. Intelligent drive management features include automatic power-up, Safe Shutdown and LED status and activity lights. My Book Mirror Edition drives feature fast USB 2.0 interfaces. A capacity gauge allows users to see at a glance how much space is available on the system.
Automatic and continuous backup software allows users to simultaneously save a change and have it backed up on the second drive for the maximum data protection. RRP for the 1TB drive is $349, while the 2GB drive sells for $699. All drives come with a three-year limited warranty. For product information, visit www.westerndigital.com.
