September 27, 2010: WD has released a new series of limited edition designs for its 500 GB My Passport Essential portable hard drives.
Purchasers can choose from five special designs created by students at California State University, Long Beach’s Industrial Design program to make the new compact drives stand out from other devices. Options include the following styles: Boom Box, Black Hole, Cityscape, Fuchsia Leaf and Wave. The drives are Windows compatible and include WD SmartWare software, which provides a simple, visual method for backup using a single-screen view of the drive’s contents.
My Passport Essential limited edition designs portable drives also feature user-selected password protection combined with 256-bit hardware-based encryption. The new HDDs are exclusive to OfficeWorks stores and sell for an RRP of $129.99. They come with a USB 2.0 interface that powers the drive directly plus a 3-year limited warranty.
