July 17, 2008: Sanyo has announced the Australian release of the Xacti VPC-CA8 waterproof camcorder next month.
Designed to withstand immersion in water up to a depth of 1.5 metres, the Xacti VPC-CA8 carries an RRP of $699. Ideal for snorkelling and surfing as well as winter activities like skiing and snowboarding it features an 8-megapixel CMOS sensor and 5x optical zoom lens. The Xacti VPC-CA8 can record moving images at up to 60 frames/second (fps) both in the water and on land and supports up to 12x digital zoom. A super macro shooting function allows users to get within 1cm of subjects when the lens is set to the wide-angle end.
Face Chaser technology for still photos and moving footage automatically detects and isolates faces to assist the camera’s exposure and auto-focus The system can recognise up to 12 faces in one still shot and six faces in a moving image. Simultaneous capture of video and still images is supported. Simply pressing the shutter button captures a still image while recording video. A high speed sequential shooting mode allows up to 10 photos to be taken in rapid succession with a shutter speed of 5 fps. A built-in digital image stabiliser is provided for correcting unintentional camera shake.
The Xacti VPC-CA8 records video in high compression MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format with digital stereo sound. Noise reduction is provided to reduce the amount of wind noise picked up by the microphone Files from the Xacti VPC-CA8 can be uploaded directly to your computer or web for sharing. The SANYO VPC-CA8 will be available from August at Camera House, Dick Smith Powerhouse and Michaels Cameras stores. Visit www.sanyo.com.au for more information.
