August 21, 2008: Tasco Sales (Aust) has released details of the new Ricoh R10, a 10-megapixel digicam with a 7.1x optical zoom lens, which replaces the R8 model.
The zoom lens, which retracts into the camera body, has a focal length range equivalent to 28-200 mm in 35 mm format and features a step zoom function with stops at 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, and 200mm equivalent positions. It can be switched on and off by assigning it to the new Fn (function) button. The R10 also sports a new 3.0-inch 460,000-dot HVGA monitor and includes the same electronic levelling function as the GR Digital II and GX200. It also has a flag function for quick recall of selected images.
The R10’s imager chip is a 6.16 x 4.62mm CCD, which is coupled to Ricoh’s Smooth Imaging Engine III image processing engine. The new model’s body is slimmer than its predecessor and has an improved grip and easy shooting mode for novice users. By pushing the Fn button when in easy shooting mode, users can specify backlight compensation for backlit scenes. Flash output is adjustable from -2.0 EV to +2.0 EV in 1/3 EV steps. The new camera also supports a 1:1 aspect ratio and a custom self-timer that can be used to specify the number of pictures to be taken (1 to 10) and the shooting interval (5 to 10 sec.).
The Ricoh R10 will go on sale next month at an RRP of $499. For more information, visit www.tasco.com.au.
