January 20, 2005: Fast response times, high resolution and a wide zoom lens are key features of the new Ricoh Caplio R1V.
A step up from the successful Caplio R1 model, the new R1V features a 5-Megapixel CCD and a 4.8x wide-angle optical zoom lens (28-135mm equivalent focal length). Up to 3.6x digital zoom is available. The slim aluminium body is similar in styling to the Caplio R1 and the lens features the same pendulum lens retracting system, which keeps the camera thickness at 25 mm. Ricoh claims the Caplio R1V takes less than a second to start up, focus and snap a shot, with the shutter responding in 0.05 seconds. With focus lock achieved it can shoot in an almost instantaneous 0.003 of a second. Fast data processing supports shot-to-shot intervals of 0.9 seconds.
Like other models in the Caplio range, the R1V can focus to 1 cm in macro mode and the movie mode records high quality continuous AVI video with sound at a full 30 frames per second. The camera is supplied with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides power for up to 500 shots from one charge. Standard AA alkaline batteries can also be used.
The Caplio R1V is available in a champagne or black metal finish and is expected to sell for $649. For product details go to www.ricoh.com.au; phone 1 300 363 741 for stockist information.
