July 25, 2008: The new Lumix DMC-LX3 10.1-megapixel digicam will be released in Australia by Panasonic in September at an RRP of $879.
Featuring a Leica DC Vario-Summicron lens with a focal length range equivalent to 24-60mm I n35mm format, the LX3 has a ‘1/1.63-inch’ image sensor that measures approximately 8 x 6 mm. It supports three aspect ratios for image capture: 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9. A new Multi Aspect mode allows the camera to take an image in all three aspect ratios simultaneously so the photographer can choose the best shot later. A new 3.0-inch 460,000-pixel LCD screen provides a wide viewing angle and includes an ‘Intelligent LCD’ function that automatically boosts the backlight when shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, and adjusts the frame rate to ensure clarity in low-light situations.

The LX3 offers a full suite of manual controls, with P, A, S and M modes on its mode dial plus 23 pre-set scene modes – including new ‘Pin Hole’ and ‘Film Grain’ modes for film camera-like effects. An Image Levelling function rotates the image to straighten it and crops the unnecessary edges when sloping horizons are detected. The flash also includes first- and second-curtain synchro settings. The DMC-LX3 also offers the convenience of a 2.0 High Speed-compatible USB port and up to 50MB of internal memory.

Video recording capabilities are extensive and include support for video in 1280 x 720p format at 30 frames/second, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and VGA (640 x 480). HD component output allows users to connect the camera to an HDTV using an optional component cable (DMW-HDC2E). Like other Lumix cameras. The LX3 can take 1920 x 1080 pixel HD (high-definition) photos that perfectly fit a widescreen (16:9) HDTV for full-screen viewing. Users can also create slideshows with a variety of change effects and matching music.
The Lumix DMC-LX3 will be available from consumer electronics retailers and photographic specialists. For more information call Panasonic on 132 600 or visit www.panasonic.com.au
