Nikon has released details of the Coolpix W100, a compact digicam that is waterproof to 10 m, shockproof to 1.8 m, dustproof and freeze-proof.

Designed for family snapshooters, the Coolpix W100 appears to be a minor update to the Coolpix S33. It features the same 1/3.1-inch type CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 13.2 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens that covers focal lengths equivalent to 30-90mm in 35mm format. Up to 4x digital zoom or 6x Dynamic Fine Zoom magnification is available. A new addition is built-in SnapBridge, which allows a smart device to access the camera, even when the camera is switched off. Images can be automatically downloaded via a constant Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection and archived to the Nikon Image Space.
The Coolpix W100 can record Full HD 1080/30p movie clips and provides a Vibration Reduction (VR) function for shooting videos. It also supports a wide selection of different effects and modes, including Add Cartoon Effects, Stamp, Add Makeup, Add Light Trails and macro mode. The camera lacks a viewfinder but has a 2.7-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 230,000 dots.
Nikon’s press office has not provided details on when the new cameras will be available in stores and, as usual, no pricing information has been made available. For more information, visit https://mynikonlife.com.au/gear/digital-compact-cameras/coolpix-w100/features/tech-specs/.
UPDATE: Nikon has advised us that the Coolpix W100 is due to go on sale in Australia on 24 August.
