New LaCie Monitors for Photographers

June 22, 2006: LaCie has released three new LCD monitors with features to appeal to digital photographers, both enthusiast and professional.
The keenly-priced LaCie 319 (RRP $1899) is a 19-inch display that is specially designed for graphic designers, photographers and pre-press technicians and offers a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels (SXGA). The S-IPS TFT panel offers a CRT-grade colour gamut, an excellent contrast ratio of 600:1 and wide 178 viewing angles, along with excellent colour and tone reproduction. The broad gamut of displayed colours is a wide 72% of the NTSC (National Television System Committee) video standards gamut and 100% of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) gamut. It can be height-adjusted, tilted, swivelled and rotated a full 90 to portrait mode.
For professional users, LaCie’s 321 monitor (RRP $3,499) is a top-of-the-line SA-Superfine 21.3-inch TFT panel with all the key features of the 319 model. Covering 72% of the NTSC (National Television System Committee) video standards gamut it includes 10-bit gamma correction and provides a high degree of gamma control for serious graphics professionals. Its 10-bit gamma expands the tonal range to 1024, smoothing colour gradation and vastly improving image precision and accuracy. It boasts a contrast ratio of 500:1 and is a reliable enabler of colour-accurate soft-proofing.
Compatible with Mac and PC workstations, the LaCie 319 and 321 monitors are bundled with LaCie blue eye pro calibration software. The included LaCie monitor hood ensures that external lighting conditions and surrounding light sources do not interfere with the document’s intrinsic colours. The anti-glare hood contains a retractable hook for easy installation and placement of a colorimeter.
At entry level, LaCie’s 119 LCD monitor (RRP $849) comes with the innovative LaFrame surround, which removes visual distractions from the user’s field of view. An excellent choice for design, layout or editing work, its anti-reflective properties reduce glare from ambient lighting. The monitor head can be height-adjusted, tilted and swivelled and it offers a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and wide horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 170 degrees. It is compatible with the LaCie ergonomic desk clamp and extendable arm and LaCie blue eye 2 calibration solution (both sold separately).
The LaCie blue eye pro calibrator (RRP $399) is a single-click hardware calibration and ICC profiling solution designed for the most demanding graphics professionals. It provides fast and accurate ICC profiling for monitors and switchable colorimetric environments. The device features third-generation colorimeter technology and covers white point settings from 4000-10,000K in 500K increments, gamma settings from 1-3 in 0.1 increments and luminance settings in maximum, absolute or percentage values.
