November 28, 2006: Sony has launched a virtual ‘film school’ video podcast to help aspiring cinematographers prepare for the annual Tropfest festival of short films in February.
Now in its third year, the annual Roughcut program offers tips, hints and expert advice for film buffs from some of Australia’s most respected film industry personnel. Roughcut 2006 offers the following masterclass sessions for downloading or streaming:

* Cinematography, from Piet de Vries, award-winning documentary filmmaker, who will discuss “How to make footage look great on a small budget”;

* Editing, from John Colette, Senior Lecturer at the UNSW College of Fine Arts, speaking on “Tips on clever editing to set the style and pace of your film”;

* Sound, from James Nowiczewski, expert sound designer and recordist, who gives “Advice on how to use different sound elements to create maximum impact”;

* Script development, from Billy Marshall Stoneking, senior lecturer at AFTRS outlining “Sources of inspiration and how to bring your ideas to life”;

* The Tropfest experience, from Rob Carlton and Alex Weinress, winners of Sony
