May 23, 2007: Megapixel numbers continue their upward spiral in digicams with the announcement by Panasonic and Casio of new 12-megapixel cameras.
The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200 combines 12.1 million effective pixels with a 3x optical zoom lens and a CCD-shift anti-shake mechanism. The sensor is a ‘1/1.7-inch’ type that measures 7.6 x 5.7 mm. Featuring the latest Exilim Engine 2.0 image processing module the EX-Z1200 also includes motion analysis technology that analyses the velocity and vector of a moving subject and sets the most appropriate ISO sensitivity and shutter speed. An Auto-tracking AF system maintains both sharp focus and correct exposure for a human face using both face detection and motion analysis technologies.
A new eBay Best Shot mode has been included in the 34 Scene pre-sets, allowing users to shoot products for online auction sites. Other Best Shot modes include Auto Macro, which is ideal for capturing images of small items such as jewellery, tags, etc. Continuous shooting is supported at 3 fps. The EX-Z1200 has a 2.8-inch Wide and Bright LCD display, which is viewable in bright outdoor lighting. The camera is being manufactured in silver and black.
