February 3, 2010: Canon will refresh its range of Legria camcorders with the addition of ten new models in April 2010 featuring innovative technologies and features making it easier to capture high-quality footage. The 2010 High Definition line-up includes Canon’s flagship HF S-series, the compact HF M-series and a new entry-level HF R-series. Across the range, many of Canon’s new LEGRIA models also include an enhanced Image Stabiliser system and a new HD-to-SD Down
Conversion feature for producing video clips to upload to the web or burn onto DVDs. The Canon FULL HD CMOS Image Sensor and DIGIC DV III Image Processor have been further improved to reduce noise under low-light conditions and deliver more faithful reproduction of purple and blue tones for both video and photos.
The Legria HF S21 and HF S20 can record Full 1920 x 1080 HD video and feature a genuine Canon 10x HD video lens and a Canon 1/2.6-inch, 8.59-megapixel Full HD CMOS image sensor. Both models can record still pictures at up to 8-megapixel resolution and both come with Canon’s new 3.5-inch 922,000-dot Touch Panel LCD screen. They also feature Canon’s Smart Auto, Relay Recording, Powered IS, HD-to-SD Down Conversion and Advanced Video Snapshot functions and are equipped with a dedicated viewfinder, LANC terminal and Focus Peaking. The HF S21 comes with 64GB of internal memory, while HF S20 has 32GB. Both include two SD card slots for maximum storage capacity and easy video transfer.

Full HD video is also a feature of the HF M31 and HF M300 Flash Memory camcorders, which come with a Genuine Canon 15x HD video lens, a 2.7-inch Touch Panel LCD with Touch & Track technology, Smart Auto, Powered IS and Advanced Video Snapshot. Canon’s Relay Recording and HD-to-SD Down Conversion functions are also provided. The Legria HF M31 has 32GB of internal Flash Memory while and the HF M300 records video directly to SD card.

Designed for budget-conscious consumers who want HD video, the Legria R-series range features a Genuine Canon 20x HD video lens, Dynamic IS, Smart Auto and Advanced Video Snapshot. The HF R18 and HF R16 feature Canon’s Relay Recording and HD-to-SD Down Conversion and come with 32GB and 8GB of internal Flash Memory, respectively. The HF R106 records directly to an SD card. The HF R16 will be offered in black, red and silver.

The Legria HF S-series and HF M-series feature Touch & Track, a new technology that allows users to select a subject on the Touch Panel LCD that they want the camera to follow. The system can recognise faces, moving objects and animals and ensure subjects will always be in focus and properly exposed.
The Legria HF S-series, HF M-series and HF R-series also come with an upgraded Advanced Video Snapshot mode that can record separate 2, 4, or 8 second video clips while shooting or during playback. These clips can be played back sequentially in the camera or on a TV screen as a watchable movie. These models also include a Smart Auto mode that can automatically select the best setting for the scene being recorded as well as Relay Recording allows users to capture uninterrupted video when the primary recording media is full by switching seamlessly to the second media source.
Powered IS is a new feature in the HF S-series and HF M-series models, providing a higher level of compensation for subtle hand movement at the telephoto end of the zoom range. It’s engaged by pressing the Powered IS button on the LCD panel. A new HD-to-SD Down Conversion feature enables users to convert recorded HD video to SD files for sharing online, while preserving the original HD video.
Canon is also introducing three Standard Definition models, the Legria FS37, FS36 and FS306 Flash Memory video cameras. All three models come with a 41x Advanced zoom lens and Dynamic IS stabilisation. The FS37 and FS36 models record to 16GB and 8GB of internal Flash Memory, respectively, while the FS306 records video directly to an SD card. The FS306 will be available in silver, red and blue.

New optional accessories for the Legria range include the WP-V2 Waterproof Case, which can be used up to depths of 40 metres with any of the HF M-series camcorders, and the SM-V1 5.1-Channel Surround Microphone, which is compatible with the HF S-series and HF M-series.
