April 21, 2006: Samsung’s Digimax i6, the world’s first digital camera with a Portable Media Player (PMP), will go on sale in Australia next month.
Featuring a 6-megapixel CCD sensor and 3x optical zoom lens (39-117mm in 35mm format), the Digimax i6 PMP comes with a built-in media player that allows users to download DVD-quality media files from the Internet and view them on the camera’s large 2.5-inch LCD screen. The camera is compatible with MP3 files, which can be stored in the 45 MB internal memory or on a removable SD memory card and played back through the camera.
Camera functions include up to 5x digital zoom magnification, built-in Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) technology and in-camera red-eye removal processing. A Mode button lets users switch between Auto, Manual and Scene modes quickly and easily. Eleven Scene modes are provided, along with four Special Effects (Colour, Photo Frame, Highlight and Composite). The Digimax i6 PMP supports MPEG-4 video shooting and offers VGA quality at 30 fps with optional movie stabilisation and in-camera editing. When used with a 256 MB memory card the user can record up to 2 hours 10 minutes of movie with sound.
