June 9, 2009: Pro gear distributor Kayell has released two new portable softbox units from Lastolite which allow photographers to manipulate and refine studio lighting, particularly for portraiture.

The KickerLite (pictured right), is a low-level 35-degree angled softbox (120cm x 90cm) for portraiture and product photography. It’s ideal for bringing out detail in shadow areas – in portraiture, around the eyes and under the chin (or for your more venerable portrait subject, chins!)

The KickerLite features an ‘H’ frame support to accommodate the studio flash head, so there’s no need for an additional light stand. The softbox features a 2-stop diffusion layer and an internal baffle for further light manipulation. The KickerLite folds to a third of its original size and comes in a handy carry case. It can also be used with battery operated flash guns.

The MegaLite is a large, collapsible (180cm x 120cm) portable softbox and silver reflective panel. It can be used as a floor standing unit or in conjunction with the adjustable stand with castor wheels. The stand enables the photographer to raise the softbox up to 105cm from the floor and rotate the angle of the softbox/reflector from vertical to horizontal. The softbox can be lit with one or two studio flash heads (one each side) depending on the output required. If using the softbox with the stand, the heads attach directly onto the stand so they move with the softbox for quick and easy positoning.

The Kickerlite has an RRP of $495, while the Megalite is $695.
