Featuring a constant f/2 aperture plus a newly developed 11-blade iris diaphragm, it can create beautifully smooth bokeh for portraits recorded as stills or in video format. The optical design of this lens contains 19 elements in 17 groups and includes two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and three ED elements to address common aberrations. Sony’s proprietary Nano AR Coating II, applied uniformly across the entire lens surface, significantly reduces ghosting and flare even in backlit conditions. Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors drive autofocusing, with a floating focusing system support a minimum focusing distance of 40 cm at 50mm with a maximum magnification of 0.20x for detailed close-ups. Aided by Sony’s advanced control algorithms, the new lens delivers fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus and is capable of supporting continuous shooting at up to 120 frames per second with full AF/AE tracking when used on Sony’s Alpha 9 III camera.
Measuring approximately 200 mm in length and weighing approximately 1,340 grams, the FE 50-150mm f/2 GM lens is ideal for both handheld and gimbal use with its featured internal zoom design that maintains the lens’ length and weight balance despite focal length changes. It is also compatible with Sony’s Breathing Compensation, which is offered on selected Alpha cameras. Linear Response MF ensures intuitive manual focus control, while the lens’s internal zoom design maintains stability even while zooming mounted on gimbals. It also boasts a robust dust- and moisture-resistant design that includes a fluorine coating on the front element to repel contaminants and make the lens easy to keep clean when working in challenging environments.
The FE 50-150mm f/2 GM (SEL50150GM) lens will be available in Australia from May 2025 for an SRP of AU$6,799. Click here for more information.
