Released this month, the latest update to Zoner Photo Studio X provides a wealth of new tools to improve image editing, selection, and sharing, many of them based upon AI masking.

Where previously, selecting objects in photos had to be done manually, that latest update features AI-powered Masking Tools that can automatically detect and select people, backgrounds, skies and other essential parts of an image to enable users to make selective adjustments. For example, you can adjust the colour of the water’s surface without affecting the boat floating on it. Or, if you want to make the boat stand out, you can quickly select it and use Masking Tools for precise adjustments. You simply click on the object you wish to adjust and AI performs the operation for you. Masks can be transferred to multiple photos, such as those in a documentary or wedding series and AI will adapt the mask to the new composition of each image, saving time on repetitive editing. The new masking system also allows users to combine different masking tools within a single adjustment, thereby providing more control and a clearer workflow. Users can also lighten and darken selected areas without affecting the rest of the image, a useful festure when working on high-contrast photos or refining highlights and shadows in skin tones by adjusting orange hues.
The Spring Update also makes it easier to present your photography on social media. In ZPS X, users can now create dynamic collages, including carousels. A single photo can be split across multiple canvases for a seamless transition between images. The same technique can be used to design an eye-catching feed by dividing one image into multiple sections. Support has been added for the HEIF and HEVC formats, which have become widely used by modern cameras and smartphones. This allows HEIF and HEVC images to be opened in ZPS X regardless of the device they were captured on. Another new addition is separate Clarity adjustments for highlights and shadows, allowing users to refine contrast adjustments without affecting the entire image. Chromatic Aberration adjustments, a new option under Effects, inspired by the cinematic world, adds a trendy colour fringing to contrasting edges, giving photos a vintage, analog look. Another addition is the ability to spread a photo across multiple prints, making it simple to create diptychs or triptychs. These layouts can be designed quickly and easily right in ZPS X.
