If you would like to create a border around an image, the easiest way to do it is with the Canvas Size setting. Simpler image editors may not include this function but all of the more powerful editors provide it. Follow these steps to add a border to a digital image in The GIMP. 1. Open the image file and select Image > Canvas Size.  2. A dialog box will open allowing you to set the Canvas Size. The dropdown menu lets you choose which units you want to use – including percentage – and the ‘Offset’ will appear in the dialog box below (which can be set to show the same units of measurement). Click on the Centre button to position the image centrally on the canvas.  3. Hit the resize button than click on View to see the effect of the resizing. You may need to click on View again and select Zoom so you can zoom out to see the background ‘canvas’. The border you have created will appear as a checkerboard, which means no colour has been applied. When you print this image, it should appear with a white border.
