July 29, 2005: Fujifilm has unveiled three new compact digital still cameras, the 9-megapixel FinePix S9000 and FinePix E900 models and the 5.1-megapixel FinePix S5200.
Featuring SLR-like styling and a 10.7x optical zoom lens, the FinePix S9000 is designed for advanced amateur photographers and is seen as a challenger for the entry-level interchangeable-lens DSLRs on the current market. The lens has a manual “twist-barrel” zoom control and covers a focal length range equivalent to 28-300mm on a 35mm camera. It can focus down to 10 mm in Super Macro mode and a tilting 1.8-inch LCD makes it easy to shoot from high and low angles. The exposure mode dial has the expected P, A, S and M settings plus Anti-Blur, which automatically adjust the camera’s ISO to combat camera shake and Natural Light for more natural looking photos in low light. ISO settings range from 80 to 1600 and the camera has a strong AF assist illuminator for quicker focusing in low light. A live histogram display is provided, along with an in-camera highlight warning that shows overexposed areas in just-taken pictures. A hot shoe and synch terminal for external flash are also provided.
For still shots, photographers can select between JPEG and RAW, with the top image file size being 3,488-by-2,616 recorded pixels. Movie clips can be recorded with VGA-quality at 30 fps. The LCD and electronic viewfinder have frame rates of 30 frames-per-second or 60 frames-per-second for smoother viewing. A dual media slot accepts xD Picture card and CompactFlash/Microdrive
The Finepix E900 features a 9-megapixel 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Technology.

Designed for photographers who want high picture quality plus a wide range of user-adjustable settings, it sports a large 2- inch LCD screen and 4x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 32-128mm in 35mm format). Like the S9000, it includes a live histogram display plus a post-shooting Highlight Warning function, along with an uncompressed RAW shooting mode for still shots and TV-quality VGA movie recording function of 30 frames per second for video.
Similar in styling to the S5100 model, Fujifilm’s FinePix S5200 sports a 5.1-megapixel 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor plus a 10x optical zoom lens (equivalent to a 38-380mm on a 35mm camera).

It also includes proprietary technology that suppresses camera shake and blur caused by subject movement. The lens can focus to 10 cm in Macro mode and the S5200’s sensitivity is adjustable from 64 up to ISO 1600.With fast operational speeds (start- up in 1.1 seconds; shutter lag of 0.01 second), and reduced power consumption, the FinePix S5200 has an automatic pop-up flash and supports JPEG and RAW file formats. Movies can be recorded with sound at VGA quality with 30 fps.
The new cameras are due for worldwide release in September or October. For more information, visit www.fujifilm.com.au.
