Following a development announcement in May 2025, the latest version of Ricoh’s APS-C sensor compact camera, the GR IV, has been scheduled for global release in mid-September.

Weighing only 262 grams with battery and microSD memory card and measuring 109.4 x 61.1 x 32.7 mm, the GR IV boasts a new, APS-C format (23.3 x 15.5 mm) CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 25.74 megapixels. The IBIS system has been upgraded to full five-axis stabilisation, which raises the claimed shake correction figure to six stops. Seen as a competitor to the wildly popular Fujifilm X100VI, the GR IV is smaller and lighter and has a lower resolution. Its redesigned 28mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens is slightly wider than the X100VI’s but also a little slower, although the camera supports up to ISO 204800 sensitivity. Its 0.6 second start-up time is the fastest in the GR-series. Like its predecessors, the GR IV lacks a viewfinder, forcing users to frame shots on the fixed 3-inch, 1,037,000-dot LCD monitor screen. The new camera accepts the same UHS-1 microSD cards as its predecessor and has a single media slot. No local pricing is currently available, although overseas websites report the GR IV will sell for US$1500, which is about $300 less than the Fujifilm X100VI, which is still very expensive for a compact camera. This is likely at least in part due to the effects of US tariffs.
