Olympus continues its PEN camera range with the PEN E-PL8, which was announced at Photokina overnight.

Designed primarily for snapshooters, the PEN E-PL8 features a 16.05 megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII image processor. It includes VCM in-body image stabilisation, an iAUTO shooting mode and Live Guide and Live Composite functions. Continuous shooting is supported at up to 8.5 fps and the camera includes the Olympus Art Filters and Photo Story function. The top shutter speed is 1/4000 second. Movies can be recorded in Full HD 1080p resolution at up to 30 fps. Images and movie clips are stored on a single SD, SDHC or SDXC memory card.
The downward-opening touch panel monitor makes it easy to take selfies and built-in Wi-Fi and the dedicated Olympus Image Share (OI.Share) smartphone app let you wirelessly connect the camera and smartphone for instant sharing of photos. Remote shooting is also available using your smartphone as a remote control.
In addition to the e-Portrait button, shutter release, Custom self-timer, brightness adjustment, Clips and movie recording buttons have been added to the monitor display for a variety of touch operations. A new Selfie mode for movie is also availableto make recording Selfie Movies smoother . It displays a movie effect button as well as a movie recording button, brightness adjustment button and Clips button.
The new PEN E-PL8 measures approximately 115 x 67 x 38 mm and weighs 357 grams with batteries inserted. Battery life is 350 shots/charge. The front of the body features synthetic leather and carefully selected patterned finishes for each colour option. The bundled strap and the colours of triangular split ring cover are new to match the body colour. The camera will come in white, brown and black and will be on sale from October 2016. Recommended retail price for the Single Lens Kit, which includes the EZ-M1442 EZ lens will be AU$899.
