Nikon Australia has released details of the new F-S Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II, an FX-format compatible telephoto zoom lens.

 

April 27, 2010: Nikon Australia has released details of the new F-S Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II, an FX-format compatible telephoto zoom lens.
Offering improved performance and functionality, the new lens comes with Nikon’s latest VR II vibration reduction system, which offers camera shake compensation equivalent to a shutter speed increase of approximately four f-stops. It also includes Nano Crystal Coat coatings to minimise ghosting and flare and an A/M (autofocus with manual override, AF priority) mode that allows focus to be fine-tuned manually while autofocus is operating. Manual focusing is also supported.

The new lens consists of 24 elements/17 groups with four ED glass elements. On a Nikon FX -format camera it covers picture angles from 12 degrees 20 minutes to 6 degrees 10 minutes, while on a DX-format camera, coverage is from eight degrees to four degrees. The closest focusing distance is 1.95 metres with manual focus or 2 metres in AF mode. Maximum magnification is 0.27x. The new lens accepts 52mm filters and comes with an HK-30 lens hood. It measures 124 x 365.5 mm and weighs 3,360 grams.
