July 12, 2006: The Sigma Corporation has released details of a new 70mm F2.8 macro lens, which has been designed for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sigma and Sony DSLRs with ‘APS-C sized’ sensors.
The new Sigma Macro 70mm F2.8 EX DG lens, which provides the equivalent field of view to a 105mm macro lens, has ten elements in nine groups and a nine bladed diaphragm, with an angle of view fixed at 34.3 degrees. Two high refractive index SLD (Special Low Dispersion) lens elements provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. The new lens includes a floating focus system that performs equally well from infinity to 1:1 reproduction ratio and the lens will focus down to 25.7 centimetres. A ‘Focus Limiter Switch’ is fitted to the lens for improving the speed and accuracy of autofocus by limiting the focus range. A screw-in lens hood which allows use of circular polarising filters is included.
The new lens weighs 525 grams and is 95 mm long with a diameter of 76 mm. It accepts 62 mm threaded filters. Details can be found at www.sigmaphoto.com. Sigma lenses are distributed in Australia by C. R. Kennedy & Company (www.crkennedy.com.au).
