Featuring a  20 megapixel MOS sensor and 30x optical zoom lens, the DC-TZ90 has a   180-degree tiltable rear monitor for video blogs or selfie shots plus a high resolution 0.2-inch 1,166,000-dot Electronic View Finder (EVF) with an eye sensor. It also includes Panasonic’s 4K Video and Photo capabilities as well as DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology which supports a quick autofocus (AF) speed of around 0.1 second. High-speed burst shooting at 10 frames/second (fps) is available in AFS mode, with focus and exposure fixed on the first frame in the burst. Burst speeds reduce to five fps in AFC (continuous focusing) mode.

The 3.0-inch 1040k-dot touch control monitor supports Touch AF and can be flipped up through 180 degrees for video blogs or selfies. In this position, the Self Shot Mode is triggered and users can choose from Face Shutter mode, which triggers the shutter after you wave your hand in front of your face, and Buddy Shutter, which operates when the camera detects two faces next to each other. The  camera can take the shot immediately, or after a 3-second or 10-second countdown. Other modes include a 4K Selfie mode and a Panorama Selfie mode for capturing large groups against scenic backgrounds. Users can choose between two Background Control modes:  Defocus, where the subject’s face is sharp and the background is blurred for a natural, attractive portrait; and Clear, where the subject and background are both sharp.

Other features include Creative Control filters, Beauty Mode effects, 5-axis HYBRID OIS+ stabilisation, Wi-fi connectivity using the Panasonic Image App, RAW image processing in-camera and AC/USB charging. The Lumix DC-TZ90 is due to go on sale in photographic specialists and consumer electronics retailers in July. It will be offered in black or silver and priced at AU$599 (RRP).
