November 2003: Microsoft has released a complete organising, photo editing, sharing and archiving application for digital photographers at an affordable price of $269.95.
The new Digital Image

Suite 9 combines Microsoft’s Digital Image Library 9 photo organising, sharing and archiving application with the latest version of the editing application, Digital Image Pro 9. The former contains wizards for importing images from cameras, CD-ROMs or removable media plus an advanced organisational system that makes it easy tolocate and organise image files. Users can locate and sort images by view, date and keyword and then sub-sort by image size, file size, year, month, event, file type, folder and user-defined rating. Images, video clips, audio and text can be combined to create ‘photo stories’ and the application contains a full suite of archiving tools.
Digital Image Pro 9 offers a comprehensive selection of easy-to-use tools, including new Smart Erase, Blending Brush and Straighten Picture functions. It also has multiple selection tools, such as Marquee, Freehand, Edge Finder and Magic Wand plus Gaussian blur and unsharp mask filters. A nifty Rule of Thirds tool allows users to crop shots to give them pleasing proportions and a new Save for Mobile Device function allows image files to be re-sized for display on a mobile phone or handheld organiser screen.
The package includes more than 5,000 clip art images, 3,000 designer project templates, 200 filters (50 of which are new in Digital Image Suite 9 and a range of mats, frames and templates. For full details, go to www.microsoft.com.au.
