Leading medium-format camera manufacturer, Hasselblad AB, and professional camera back and scanner manufacturer, Imacon, will merge in a bid to “take on the professional digital market”.

Shriro Sweden, the holding company of Victor Hasselblad AB, announced the acquisition of Imacon on 12 August in a move that will retain the Hasselblad name for the merged entity. Imacon founder, Christian Poulsen will be CEO for the company. Imacon and Hasselblad have a strong pre-existing relationship through collaboration in the Ixpress digital camera back and the Hasselblad H1 camera. The new company is “committed to producing the highest quality products and the integration of established technological expertise and vision”.
Hasselblad was purchased in January 2003 by the Hong Kong based Shriro Group, which currently distributes Hasselblad cameras in Japan, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. Hasselblad’s Australian distributor is C.R. Kennedy & Company (www.crkennedy.com.au).
