Olympus has released firmware updates for its Pen E-P1, E-P2 and E-PL1 cameras and announced new software to replace both the Olympus Master 2 and Olympus Studio 2 applications.

April 15, 2010: Olympus has released firmware updates for its Pen E-P1, E-P2 and E-PL1 cameras and announced new software to replace both the Olympus Master 2 and Olympus Studio 2 applications.
The new Pen firmware is designed to improved auto-focus performance in all three Pen cameras, both for still images and movie shooting, particularly with the M.Zuiko 17mm f2.8 and M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lenses, where AF speeds claim to be increased by 15%. For the Pen E-P1 and E-P2 models, the new firmware also provides enhanced AF tracking in C-AF (Continuous Auto-focusing) for the movie mode when shooting with the M.Zuiko 9-18mm f4.0-5.6 and 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 lenses.
It also adds the ability to display the camera settings menu and immediately captured image on the LCD when the VF-2 electronic viewfinder is attached to the E-P2 or E-PL1 cameras. The new firmware will be available on April 22, 2010 at midday (Australian Eastern Standard Time).
The new Olympus Viewer 2 will replace both the Olympus Master 2 and Olympus Studio 2 applications. Designed to provide facilities for photo editing, image selection and sorting and raw file development, it is compatible with the latest Windows and Mac operating systems. Many of the capabilities of the earlier software are included in Viewer 2, which will be available for downloading free of charge from the Olympus Imaging Australia website next month. Support for Olympus Master 2 and Olympus Studio 2 will be discontinued on 27 April.
