July 8, 2010: Canon has issued firmware updates for its EOS 550D and EOS-ID Mark IV DSLR cameras.
Firmware Version 1.0.8 for the EOS 550D, which applies to cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.7, fixes a phenomenon in which the set aperture moves unexpectedly when the focusing ring moves while shooting movies in manual exposure mode using some Canon lenses (such as macro lenses). This update can be downloaded at http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eosdigital7/firmware.html. Full instructions for downloading and installing it are provided.
Firmware Version 1.0.8 for the EOS-ID Mark IV incorporates the same fix as outlined above and also corrects misspellings in the French and Spanish menus for applicable products. It can be accessed at http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos1dm4/firmware.html.
