January 15, 2006: A new spectrocolorimeter-based hardware/software suite allows photographers to create accurate printer profiles for a wide range of printing media.
The ColorVision PrintFIX PRO software is bundled with the Datacolor 1005 Spectrocolorimeter patch reading hardware and sells for $995 (RRP). For more serious printers, the PrintFIX PRO Suite is bundled with the ColorVision Spyder2PRO spectrophotometer plus monitor calibration software. RRP for this suite is $1275. The new wizard-based software creates spectro printer profiles that support all RGB-driven inkjet, dye-sub, thermal, chemical and laser printers. PrintFIX PRO also affords users the flexibility and richer interface of a stand-alone software application. Spectro technology enables support of a wide range of media, especially third party fine art papers, third party inks and an unlimited range of RGB-driven printers.
The PrintFIX PRO patch reader allows users to measure calibration targets and save the data in L*a*b format. It also offers optimised higher patch targets and delivers customised profiling choices according to specific user needs. Some targets can be read in slightly over two-minutes, while more critical use targets can be read in under four. Read times are saved, reducing time requirements from two hours to under 20 minutes and making high patch profiles for the most demanding devices much more justifiable. The new 1005 Spectro is a native USB device that is powered from the computer, eliminating external power supply requirements. When not in use PrintFIX PRO, rests on a calibration base that includes a spring-loaded wheel containing the device’s calibration tiles.
