Canon’s latest travel zoom camera, the PowerShot SX740 HS, boasts an equivalent zoom range of 24-960mm and includes 4K video capabilities.

Due for release at the beginning of September, the PowerShot SX740 HS weighs just under 300 grams with battery and card installed and comes in two colours: black or silver.
The 1/2.3-type (6.17 x 4.55 mm) back-illuminated CMOS sensor has an effective resolution of 20.3 megapixels and combines with a DIGIC 8 processor to provide rapid autofocusing and continuous shooting at up to 10 frames/second.
The new camera can record 4K Ultra High Definition video and includes a 4K time-lapse mode, both allowing frame grabs from footage at  approximately 8 megapixel size. ISO sensitivity ranges from 80 to 3200, with a maximum of ISO 1600 in auto mode. Shutter speeds range between 15 seconds and 1/3200 second.Travel-friendly features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth smartphone connectivity that allow the camera to maintain a connection with compatible iOS or Android devices, a Self Portrait mode using the flip-up LCD screen and a range of user-friendly automatic settings, including a Smart Auto shooting mode with 29 scenes pre-programmed for auto detection.

The built-in flash has a range from 50 cm to between two and four metres, depending on the zoom position.

The Hybrid Auto mode creates a highlight movie with the day’s photos. Zoom Framing Assist automatically adjusts the zoom or focuses on faces to achieve the best photo composition. ZoomPlus technology digitally increases the 40x optical zoom to 80x.

The PowerShot SX740 HS also includes 5-axis stabilisation. Raw file capture is not supported.
