Monthly data released by the Japanese Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) shows continuing growth in the camera market for the year ending December 2025.

The latest figures show a steady increase in shipments during the year, with some flattening out in production volumes between June and August, when many Japanese take their annual holidays and a further, slightly lower decline when winter sets in during November and December. Mirrorless cameras clearly dominate market and represent the overwhelming majority of cameras sold, while DSLR volumes remain low and declining. Fixed lens cameras have continued the steady growth, established earlier in the year.

We’ve carried out our own analysis of the extensive figures released by CIPA on a monthly basis, which confirm the trends established in 2024. It’s worth noting the CIPA figures only use data from Japanese manufacturers so information about cameras and lenses made by manufacturers in China, Germany or other countries is not included.
