February 7, 2011: Two new Speedlite flash units have been added to Canon’s DSLR accessory range.
The 270EXII Speedlite is a compact unit that is ideal for entry level DSLR photographers. Pocket sized and weighing only 155 grams, it provides vertical bounce capability and includes a slave function that allows unit to be used as slave during wireless shooting. An on-board flash release allows compatible cameras to be triggered by the flash in self-timer mode, providing control over lighting angles and balance. The Tele/Wide function allows the illumination angle and guide number to be set match the shooting conditions. This flash is powered by two AA batteries and has a range of 0.7 to 19.3 metres. Minimum recycling time is between 0.1 and 3.9 seconds.

The 320EX Speedlite has been designed for use as both a flash and a video light. In addition to a standard flash head, it sports a built-in LED light that doubles as a video light and a modelling light for the flash. The flash has an effective range of 0.7 to 22.9 metres and the head can be turned 90 degrees vertically, 180 degrees to the left or 90 degrees to the right for flash bouncing. A slave function allows unit to be used as slave during wireless shooting.

Back mounted controls make it easy to operate while the Tele/Wide function allows the illumination angle and guide number to be set match the shooting conditions. Power is supplied by four AA batteries and the flash has a minimum recycling time of between 0.1 and 2.3 seconds. Recycling is virtually silent. This flash is supplied with a soft pouch and mini stand for when it is used as a slave unit.
The Speedlite 270EXII will be available from March, while the Speedlite 320EX is due for release in April. Pricing has still to be determined. For more information, phone Canon on 1800 021 167, or visit www.canon.com.au.
