The controversial movie, ‘The Stringer’, will screen at the Head On Photo Festival between 6:30 and 8:30 pm on Sunday, 9 November at the Bondi Pavilion in Sydney.
Vietnamese American director, Bao Nguyen, produced this feature documentary, which covers the search by acclaimed war photographer Gary Knight and a small team of journalists to find out exactly who took the famous ‘Napalm Girl’, one of the Vietnam War’s most iconic photographs. The film grapples with questions of authorship, racial injustice, and journalistic ethics while shining a light on the vital yet often unrecognised contributions of freelance photographers in shaping the media landscape.
