Photography is a landscape that is constantly evolving. In recent years, we’ve seen workflows transition from traditional manual processes to the realm of automation and image manipulation powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
However, many photographers still invest hours (if not days) of time and effort into manual image selection and editing.
In a world where time is a valuable commodity, Aftershoot has emerged as an ideal post-shoot assistant with its AI-powered culling and editing software.
Aftershoot seamlessly integrates with Lightroom and Capture One to significantly reduce culling and editing time.
It recently achieved a milestone by becoming the first AI-powered editing software to integrate with Capture One.
A streamlined workflow with Aftershoot
Aftershoot’s advanced algorithms speed up tedious processes while ensuring photographers stay in control of the final outcome.
Through its Aftershoot SELECTS feature, the software efficiently analyzes thousands of images within minutes, highlighting the best shots for review.
This culling function takes into account factors like blur, emotion, duplicates, and more.
Aftershoot’s AI editor, known as Aftershoot EDITS, learns from a photographer’s past edits stored within their Lightroom or Capture One Catalog(s).
EDITS replicates the photographer’s unique editing style onto unedited images at remarkable speed, capable of editing 1,000 images in under a minute.
Bonus: Aftershoot runs locally on MacOS & Windows, so you don’t need an Internet connection to use the software.
So, how exactly does Aftershoot automate the editing process?
Automating Editing with Aftershoot’s AI Profiles
Editing with Aftershoot is the same for Lightroom and Capture One users.
Aftershoot uses custom AI Profiles – which can be seen as intelligent presets – to replicate your editing style onto unedited images.
AI Profiles consider a photographer’s preferences to make automatic, consistent adjustments to unedited images.
Creating an AI Profile in Aftershoot starts with selecting whether your AI Profile is in Black & White or Color, and whether you work with JPEGs or RAW images while editing.
Next, upload the Lightroom or Capture One catalog(s) in which you have edited those images that will serve as the basis for AI learning.
These catalogs must show the adjustments you have made to the images, as the AI learns where you started and what adjustments you made to get to the final product.
A minimum of 2,500 images is recommended to train your AI Profile, with greater numbers leading to better results.
Once the AI Profile is trained, add your Lightroom or Capture One catalog, choose the AI Profile, and filter for the images you want to edit.
Aftershoot takes it from there, delivering a collection of edited images ready for review within minutes.
Photographers maintain control over final edits and the AI takes further adjustments into account for future improvements.
There are two options when making further adjustments:
1. Correct the AI edits as usual in Lightroom and Capture One, or
2. Use Profile Adjustments in Aftershoot to fine-tune your AI Profile and help correct the AI before you even get started.
The good news: If you don’t have enough edited images to train a custom AI Profile, you can use Aftershoot’s pre-built AI Profiles (called AI Styles) to automate your editing process.
Nine AI Styles are available in the application’s new Marketplace section. While AI Styles are currently only available for Lightroom users, integration with Capture One is in the works.
