Panasonic announces new microphone plus firmware updates for Lumix S Series cameras

Designed for creators and professionals who want uncompromising audio quality, the Lumix DMW-DMS1 is a float capable all in-one microphone for content creation kits. Its lightweight (100 gram) body, crisp multi-directional audio and 32-bit float recording will be welcomed by single creators or bloggers as well as small crew operations. A new large-diameter 10mm microphone array that delivers crisp, focused audio even in challenging environments. For run-and-gun workflows, an internal floating shock-mount minimises vibration noise from movement, while the included windscreen reduces wind interference. The new wind noise cancellation system leverages float-recording technology, suppressing wind without compressing the intended signal, maintaining an open, natural vocal tone even in adverse weather. Users can choose from six directional modes, reducing the need for additional accessories and setup as well as two backup recording modes. With 32-bit float recording, they will be able to capture audio without distortion at sound pressure levels up to approximately 120 dB.

The DMW-DMS1 draws power and transmits digital audio via the hot shoe, eliminating cable management. Physical switches are intuitive, and directional mode buttons feature adjustable brightness for low-light environments. A dedicated pouch provides convenient storage and transport with the windscreen attached. It is priced at $649.00 RRP and will be available in late March 2026 from photo specialists and leading consumer electronics retailers.

New firmware will be available for the Lumix S1RII, S1II, S1IIE, S5II, and S5IIX cameras from 10 march at midday AEST from the Lumix Global Customer Support website and app stores. Click here for details of the changes and specific downloads for each listed camera.
