For the first time, the Photofields series of intimate conversations and workshops will be presented at PHIVE in Parramatta. This year’s program focuses on documentary practice and the role of the image in constructing cultural memory. With tickets to each session costing only $10, Photofields is an accessible event that invites everyone from photography enthusiasts to established photographers to meet one another and explore how photography both captures the world and shapes it. Events include:
- Documenting Personal Histories in which acclaimed photographer and storyteller William Yang reflects on decades of image-making and his deeply personal take on the history of Australian photography.
- The Right to Witness, in which photographers Andrew Quilty and Bahram Mia discuss the responsibilities photographers have to their subjects.
- Shaping History, a conversation between photographer, Barbara McGrady, and Nathan mudyi Sentance, Head of Collections, First Nations at Powerhouse.
- Honest Work, in which photographer, Matt Wilson and brand strategy and community engagement expert, Kate Asamoah, lead a conversation and workshop about representing youth culture with honesty and insight.
