Lighter and more compact than competing 200mm prime lenses, the Canon EF mount version weighs only 1,590 grams and is 148.3 mm long, while the Sony E and Nikon Z mount versions weigh 1,710 grams, with the Sony version measuring 174.8 mm and the Nikon version at 176.8 mm. With its precise autofocus and large f/2 maximum aperture, the new lens is ideal for sports and wildlife photography as well as portraiture. It has a minimum focusing distance pf 1.5 metres with a 0.15x maximum magnification. The optical design (shown below) consists of 11 elements in 9 groups and includes two ED elements and one AD element plus a front element made from ultra-high refraction glass.

Nine diaphragm blades create a circular aperture for smooth, attractive bokeh, which when combined with the 200mm perspective compression can produce striking three-dimensional effects. Two filter threads are provided, with the front thread accepting 105 mm diameter filters and the rear one 43 mm filters.
The new lens is available to pre-order now and will ship in November 2025. Its MSRP is US$1,799 for the Canon EF version or US$1,999 for the Nikon Z and Sony E versions. Click here for full details.
