The new camera, which features a 102-megapixel GFX 102MP CMOS II sensor and X-Processor 5 image processor, will be available in Australia on 7 April at an RRP of AU$8799. It will come with a precision machined aluminium lens hood and a dedicated adapter ring plus PRF-49 protective filter as well as a stylish rope-type shoulder strap. Both internally and externally (with respect to control layout), the GFX100RF can be seen as an upsized (200 gram heavier) version of the popular X100VI camera. Its body is offered in black and silver versions and boasts a newly developed 35mm f/4 lens (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format), which has an optical design consisting of 10 elements in 8 groups, including two aspherical lenses.  A newly developed Nano GI coating, optimised for lenses with significant curvature, suppresses light reflection even at the periphery of the lens. A leaf shutter supports flash photography at any shutter speed. The GFX100RF is the first to feature an Aspect Ratio Dial. The latest AI-based subject detection AF features an AF prediction function and face/eye detection AF that is fast and precise. Deep learning technology is used to recognise a wide variety of subjects, including animals, vehicles, birds, and aeroplanes.

The weather-resistant camera body is built to high construction standards and includes a machined aluminium top plate. The same meticulous machining extends to components like the lens ring, dials, and bottom plate, enhancing the feel of the metal and delivering a unified design. A new Digital Teleconverter Lever is mounted on the front of the camera, enabling users to select in-camera 36mm, 50mm and 63mm focal length equivalent crops, the largest of them reducing the effective resolution to around 24 megapixels. The GFX100RF also sports a 3.15-inch, 2.1 million-dot, two-axis tilt LCD monitor, featuring a new user interface (UI) that optimally aligns shooting icons to match the monitor’s 3:2 aspect ratio. Its EVF has a resolution of 5,760,000 dots with generous 0.84x magnification and an ‘optical simulation’ mode that kicks in when using crops.

The GFX100RF supports smooth 4K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit video recording. With a native ISO setting of 100, it allows for wide dynamic range and low noise shooting. The ‘F-Log2’ mode can capture more than 13 stops of dynamic range to provide rich gradation expression and high flexibility in post-production. The new camera is compatible with the Frame.io Camera to Cloud service. Video and still image files can be uploaded directly to Frame.io, dramatically speeding up the workflow from shooting to editing. Click here for more information on the new camera.
