Laundromat Kids

Nikon D750; Sigma 35mm lens
Taken during summer of early 2021 when the year was so full of the unknown after Covid hit small business hard. This image is of my children waiting patiently while my husband and I tended to our shop. The bandaids on the knees and mismatch of dirty slippers and clothes help portray the battle wounds that my husband and I feel when coming out the other side of small business during the Covid era.
Don’s response
I love all the little details in Melissa Crisa’s snapshot of life in the Covid era. “Snapshot” is perhaps not the right word for this well balanced composition. The kids could so easily have been mugging for mum’s camera, but instead they’re each within themselves in a way that perhaps gives the viewer something of a feeling of their different personalities. For me Laundromat Kids grabs the attention and then gives you something to engage with beyond your initial moment of bemusement.
