The Castle Tail

Anybody who has climbed the Castle in the Budawangs NSW will appreciate the feeling of standing in the place where I took this photo. It’s a tough climb up there but the reward makes it so worth it.

This image looks down the tail on the Castle onto Nibelung Crags and Shrouded Gods. The early morning light made the rocks stand out more than the harsh light of the day.

Don’s response

Photographer Gavin Kellett must have climbed to this remarkable location in the wee small hours, by the light of a headlamp.

I like the way he’s structured this image with its tactile near foreground which then leads the eye in an S-shaped journey down the ridge below and on out to the more distant landscape.

The picture works quite well at the size you’ll be viewing it, but I think it would really come into its own as an A2 or larger print.
