Pentax K20D with Sigma twin lens kit: $1389 Offering 14.6-megapixel resolution in a well-built camera body with all the controls and functions keen photographers require, the Pentax K20D represents great value for money at this price. The Sigma lenses are good performers and complement the Pentax body well.

Entry-level DSLR Buyers:
Olympus E-420 twin lens kit: $799 The smallest, lightest interchangeable-lens DSLR camera on the market, the E-420 is easy to use and provides plenty of in-camera help for novice users. The ability to compose shots on the camera’s LCD screen in Live View mode makes it a good choice for anybody buying their first DSLR camera.

Enthusiast Digicam:
Canon PowerShot G10: $669 Designed specifically for serious photographers, the G10 has an excellent control layout and Photo Review’s Imatest assessments showed it to be an above-average performer with both JPEG and raw FILES. The G10 uses a standard Canon raw file format that is compatible with most popular converters. The 5x optical zoom lens is optically stabilised and covers a range equivalent to 28- 140mm.

Long Zoom Digicam:
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28: $609 A good performer in the long-zoom category, the FZ28 has an impressive Leica-branded 18x optical zoom lens that covers a range equivalent to 27mm to 486mm in 35mm format. Built-in optical image stabilisation is provided and the 10.1 megapixel image sensor will meet most users’ needs. This model can also record HD video clips.

Pocketable Digicam:
Canon Digital Ixus 80 IS: $249 Offered in five attractive colours, this slimline digicam has an 8-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5-inch LCD but also adds a viewfinder. A strong performer in Photo Review’s Imatest assessments, it comes with optical image stabilisation and weighs only 125 grams.

Sony CyberShot DSC-T700: $479 Offering 10.1-megapixel resolution and a 4x optical zoom lens plus a huge 3.5-inch LCD screen, this innovative digicam is slim enough to slip into a shirt pocket and comes in four smart colours. Its 4GB internal memory allows you to store thousands of snapshots for sharing with others. It also sports Advanced Face Detection, Smile Shutter and Intelligent Scene Recognition for point-and-shoot picture-taking.

(Not yet reviewed) A stylish, easy-to-use digicam with an 8.1-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and built-in optical image stabilisation. It comes with an Intelligent auto shooting mode that makes it easy to take in-focus, correctly-exposed digital photos.
