C-5060 Wide Zoom
As well as a 5-megapixel sensor and 27-110mm equivalent zoom lens, the Camedia C-5060 Wide Zoom offers just about every control a photographer could require, including RAW and TIFF capture settings. The standard P, A, S and M shooting modes are augmented by five scene settings and program shift is available with the A and S modes. You can save up to eight shooting set-ups in the custom menu. A ‘frame assist’ function displays guidelines on the monitor, and ‘2-in-1’ and panorama options are provided (the latter only with Olympus-branded cards). The white balance control has five settings plus a memory where up to four custom readings can be saved. You can fine tune any white balance setting and adjust contrast, sharpness and saturation through five steps above and below the neutral setting.
The test camera felt solid and substantial and its control and menu systems were easy to use. Image quality was excellent overall, although contrast levels were a tad high. White balance accuracy was excellent under both incandescent and fluorescent lighting. Low light shots were virtually noise-free – even without noise reduction enabled. Battery life was outstanding but the supplied software was non-intuitive and clumsy to operate.
Strengths
- Tough, well-designed body
- Wide range of controls and functions
- Excellent video capabilities
- Voice memos can be recorded
Weaknesses
- AF slower than average
- Accurate manual focusing is difficult
- Viewfinder covers only 77% of the frame at wide angle [BG05]
