Available in black or aquamarine blue, Lowepro’s Cirrus TLZ 15 camera pouch is affordable priced and can accommodate a long-zoom digicam or a small DSLR with zoom lens attached. Designed primarily for photographers who want to protect their cameras from dust, moisture and impact shock yet keep it readily accessible, the Cirrus TLZ 15 has a tough outer layer that is water- and abrasion-resistant and a padded, tricot-lined interior pouch that holds the camera.
The lid overlaps the pouch and closes with a reversed zipper that prevents dust from entering. The overlap isn’t quite as generous as we’d like but, as long as the zip is closed, the contents of the pouch should be adequately protected. A pocket inside the lid has space for several memory cards. The camera pouch is well-padded, particularly around the rim, which supports the camera body.
A belt loop is provided, along with a shoulder strap that attached with clips that swivel through 360 degrees. When carried on this loop, the lid opens away from the wearer’s body to provide extra protection, at the same time making the camera readily available. An adjustable shoulder strap is fitted to loops on the side of the pouch with clips that swivel through 360 degrees to minimise tangling.
A padded handle is attached to the lid of the pouch. Immediately below the outer anchorage point for this lid is a flat, unpadded pocket with a Velcro closure, which can accommodate small, flat accessories like cables or media cards. Only waterproof items should be stored in this pocket as moisture can seep in through the top.
A holster-like bag like the Cirrus TLZ 15 will suit bushwalkers and travellers who only wish to carry one camera and lens. It’s deep enough to accommodate a relatively long zoom lens but the pouch itself is too small to fit a medium-sized DSLR like the recently-released Canon EOS 40D or Sony DSLR-A700. It’s important to arrange the camera strap on top of the rear panel to make the camera accessible quickly and safely.
