Winners in the Open, Youth and National Award competitions of this year’s Sony World Photography Awards have just been announced.
All three competitions were judged on a single shot and prizes range from the latest Sony digital imaging equipment to trips to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards gala ceremony on 30 April. The ten Open winners will also compete for a $5,000 (USD) prize and the title of Overall Open Photographer of the Year. The winning entries were selected from more than 70,000 entries from across the world.
In the National contest, Neville Jones has taken out the Australian section of the competition, with an image titled “Going Home” which was shot on the Li River near Xingping in China. It was selected from more than 2,700 Australian entries by photographers by a local panel of judges, including fine arts photographer and Sony Ambassador, Steve Morenos. As the Australia National Award winner, Jones receives Sony digital camera equipment and his photograph will be exhibited at Somerset House, London from 1-18 May as part of the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition and published on www.worldphoto.org.
