The popular World Press Photo exhibition will be on display at the State Library of NSW from 21 May to 19 June 2016.

Now in its 16th year, this is the library’s most popular annual exhibition. This year’s exhibition includes Australia’s first Photo of the Year winner: a photograph by Warren Richardson showing a Syrian father handing his baby through barbed wire as he crossed the border from Serbia into Hungary in August 2015. This image also won first prize in the Spot News category.

The exhibition features more than 150 award-winning images from the 59th World Press Photo Contest, selected from 82,951 entries by 5,775 photographers from 128 countries. It draws attention to the most urgent social, environmental and political events and issues facing the world today.

World Press Photo is a free exhibition at the State Library of NSW from 21 May to 19 June, 2016. Galleries are open until 5pm every day, and until 8pm on Thursdays.
